1er Grand Cru Classé
2nd Wine of Château Guiraud
Château Guiraud, classified Premier Cru Classé in 1855, is located in the heart of the commune of Sauternes, along with its famous neighbor château d’Yquem. The vines are planted around the cellars and Château, with a blend of 65 percent Semillon and 35 percent Sauvignon. Under the ownership of the Narby family since 1981 quality has been greatly on the rise.
Noted for its deep, rich color, no doubt due to the harvesting in several waves or passes, where only those grapes affected by the “noble rot” Botrytis are picked. This process is not only risky but also very labor intensive and expensive, as yields are greatly reduced. The estate is proudly devoted to sustainable agriculture and creating of a well balanced ecosystem. As a result of this commitment, Château Guiraud has risen to become one of the top half dozen producers of the rich nectar that is Sauternes.
