Château Cos d’Estournel
“Grand Cru Classé”
Les Pagodes de Cos
The vineyards of Chateau Cos d’Estournel are located close to the border between Pauillac and St. Estephe. Part of the terroir is situated on the hill of Cos, which is at a good elevation for the Medoc at 65 feet. Cos, which is translated from old Gascon speech means the hill of pebbles, aptly describes the terroir along with clay, gravel, sand and alimestone base. Because the fruit is grown close to the Atlantic ocean in a cool climate, it is often among the last of the properties in the Medoc to harvest.
Cos d’Estournel is typically a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 38% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc.
